The Litigation Paralegal provides support to attorneys in complex litigation, investigations, and enforcement matters, and is assigned to designated cases, clients, projects, and/or attorneys and is responsible for managing all phases of the case lifecycle, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation. The role also includes an annual billable hour’s requirement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Organize and oversee the maintenance of large matter files, ensuring accurate and timely filing of correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions, transcripts, and other case materials.
- Utilize litigation databases and e-discovery platforms, including conducting searches, loading transcripts, and coding documents.
- Conduct research on PACER and generate PACER reports, as well as research and retrieve filings from state and local courts.
- Organize, chronologize, categorize, and index documents and evidence for use in discovery, motion practice, and trial.
- Assist with deposition preparation, including assembling deposition notebooks, witness files, and exhibit binders.
- Support trial preparation and organization, including drafting and maintaining exhibit lists, witness lists, jury instructions, and trial binders; coordinate logistics for hearings, arbitrations, and trials.
- Bates- stamp and otherwise label documents for productions, trial exhibits and trial notebooks.
- Copy, organize, and code documents for large-scale document productions conducted within the firm or by outside vendors.
- Retrieve public records from online databases and directly from government agencies, as needed.
- Summarize straightforward depositions and other legal documents and prepare factual chronological and case summaries.
- Draft and prepare legal documents appropriate to practice area, such as routine discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, cover letters, and filing documents.
- Research, analyze, and summarize legal authorities and related materials, including statutes, judicial decisions, legal articles, treatises, constitutions, legal codes, and other law-related sources relevant to litigation and regulatory enforcement matters.
- Perform paralegal duties and responsibilities as directed by Paralegal Support Manager and attorneys within the practice group.
- Proactively monitor and track deadlines, including court-imposed deadlines and internal case management deadlines, and take appropriate action to ensure they are met.
- Maintain the firm’s official files through consistent use of the document management system.
- Accurately track and record billable and non-billable time and meet established minimum billable hour requirements.
- Maintain confidential information for client and matter related activities.
Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of the litigation process, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, court rules, and filing procedures.
- Proven ability to interpret and follow complex instructions with accuracy and exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated sound judgement and good discretion.
- Strong commitment to delivering high-quality, professional client service to both internal and external clients.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple litigation matters in a deadline-driven environment, with timely communication if daily responsibilities cannot be met.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and shifting priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional grammar, punctuation and proofreading skills.
- Ability to perform all work in strict compliance with ethical rules governing the practice of law.
- Strong teamwork skills across practice groups, offices, and colleagues to support the efficient delivery of legal services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Bachelor’s degree or any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
$70,000.00 - $90,000.00
