Systems Engineer, IT Support
This is a contract role with a well-established financial services firm in Boston, MA (hybrid). The position supports mission critical investment and trading applications, providing front-line production support to operations, portfolio management, compliance, and trading teams. The technology environment includes Linux, SQL Server, Git, batch scheduling tools, and cloud/Dev Ops platforms.
This opportunity is best suited for a highly technical production support engineer who enjoys working in live environments and wearing multiple hats. The role places heavy emphasis on SQL and Linux expertise, along with strong communication skills. You’ll gain hands on experience supporting complex financial systems, collaborating closely with engineering teams, and improving system reliability through automation and process improvement.
Required Skills & Experience- Strong experience supporting live production environments
- Advanced SQL (queries, troubleshooting, error resolution)
- Strong Linux command line skills
- Experience with Git or other distributed version control systems
- Experience with batch scheduling / workload automation tools (Control-M preferred; Autosys, Active Batch, Tivoli, JAMs, etc.)
- Experience with multi-tier application deployments
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Undergraduate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- Background supporting financial or investment systems
- Cloud / Dev Sec Ops experience (Azure, Azure Dev Ops, Terraform, Vault)
- Scripting experience (Bash, Shell)
- Familiarity with Java, Python, REST APIs, Kafka/JMS
- Monitoring tools such as Grafana or Datadog
