Role: Principal Mainframe Software Engineer

Location: Merriamck, H

Job Type: Hybrid (50% Remote, 50% on-site)

• Deep hands-on expertise with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch/online processing, IOM, and enterprise batch scheduling tools
• Extensive experience designing, engineering, and optimizing mainframe applications
• SQL proficiency across DB2, Oracle, and/or Postgres with strong data analysis and performance debugging skills
• Proven experience modernizing legacy mainframe systems and integrating with distributed or cloud architectures
• Ability to research, architect, and deliver sophisticated end-to-end technical solutions
• Strong Agile background with the ability to mentor teams and influence technical direction
• Outstanding analytical, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science Engineering

• Lead and contribute to architecture design initiatives that shape mainframe and hybrid-platform solutions
• Define and implement application and system-level architectures for high-performance, resilient mainframe environments
• Recommend development tools, testing frameworks, and engineering methodologies to improve quality and efficiency
• Ensure production readiness, quality assurance, performance, and compliance with enterprise standards
• Author comprehensive documentation including architecture diagrams, integration specs, and modernization playbooks
• Lead full project lifecycle planning and execution for large-scale, cross-platform initiatives
• Identify engineering risks and drive mitigation strategies to ensure system resilience
• Serve as a senior liaison to business and technology partners, translating requirements and resolving technical issues
• Champion production stability by proactively monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving system issues, driving root-cause analysis, and ensuring 24/7 reliability

• You elevate the stability and performance of the client tax processing platform through deep mainframe engineering expertise
• You influence architectural strategy by providing top-tier technical leadership and solution guidance
• You enable cross-team success by translating complex business needs into scalable, high-quality technology solutions
• You ensure reliable delivery and operational excellence through strong engineering practices, documentation, and risk management
• You safeguard production stability by reducing incidents, improving resilience, and ensuring consistent, high-quality system performance

Looking for minimum of 8 years' experience with mainframe (COBOL)

Product Area / business domain:
Tax domain - Bookkeeping Record – Cost Basis Determination and Record, as well as the reporting of Capital Gains – Trade and Non-Trade EOD / EOM / EOY reporting

Scope of work: 50/50 Prod state support and feature development
