Job Summary:
The Research Manager, AI will support research at the Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard (D^3) by being the in-house expert on research compliance, finance, and other policies leveraging AI tools to navigate these areas. The Research Manager will report to the D^3 Director of Research Services.
Job-Specific Responsibilities- Configures, co-develops, and uses AI tools to support faculty principal investigators and researchers developing required research documentation, such as Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, data use agreement (DUA) exhibits, scopes of work (SOW), and budgets, with the goal of accelerating approval by delivering better first drafts to HBS and Harvard research administration.
- Identifies additional opportunities for use of agentic AI and other tools to streamline compliance workflow and develops strategy for deployment and adoption by D^3 and other HBS faculty.
- Partners with HBS Division of Research and Faculty Development (DRFD) to enhance AI tools to best serve their needs as reviewers and approvers of research compliance documents.
- Serves as in-house policy expert, well-versed in University and HBS policies and how they intersect.
- Works across all parts of the D^3 research program, quickly understanding new projects and their compliance needs. Flags issues for escalation to appropriate D^3, HBS, or Harvard offices.
- Conducts training on research policies and use of the AI tools for D^3 research associates and postdoctoral fellows. Promotes best practices for the responsible conduct of research and research integrity.
- Build trust and collaboration by being present on-site and engaging directly with colleagues and various constituents.
- This role is responsible for other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in higher education or research. Demonstrated understanding of research methods and protocols preferred.
- Experience with research compliance protocols such as IRBs, DUAs, and data safety submissions.
- Strong and diplomatic communicator—both verbally and in writing.
