Position: Sr. UX Designer - TID (Contractor Position)

The Technology Innovation Department’s (TID) Senior UX Designer will plan and execute design and research strategy for a rider-facing or front-line worker facing product. They translate user experience research and business requirements into organized, thoughtful, and delightful software experiences.

UX Designers in TID are part of the UX Research and Design team – a cross-functional group reporting to the Sr. Director of UX Research and Design. All members are comfortable with every stage of design; this role is chiefly lead design and research initiatives in an agile product development group alongside a product manager and a lead engineer to understand users, their current tools and processes, and uncover opportunities that will drive the design of the product.

They will mold complex processes into clear experience flows, distill complex data into navigable and understandable user interfaces, design obvious and meaningful interactions that scale across multiple screen sizes – including mobile, tablet, and desktop.

They will test, synthesize results, and iterate regularly, communicating their findings to stakeholders and influencing product direction.

User Experience Research and Design Capabilities
  • Scope and execute UX work, including defining user needs and the structure of the experience.

  • Support product and program strategy by expertly advocating for users while understanding full business context and constraints.

  • Understand user contexts across multiple touchpoints and scenarios and champion end-to-end user journeys.

  • Apply appropriate frameworks and tools for approaching UX work, solving problems with cross-functional teams, and supporting accessible experiences.

  • Work with product managers, engineering leads, and program leads in an agile environment to understand current and near-future needs, plan work, and execute against that plan.

  • Design intuitive, accessible user flows that become the foundation for user experiences and solutions.

  • Design reusable components that can scale across systems, touchpoints, and screen sizes; work closely with engineering to discuss best practices, negotiate tradeoffs, and ensure consistency between design and code.

  • Create interactive prototypes that express key ideas and allow you to test with end users, partners, and key stakeholders.

  • Assist in end-user facing research, including organizing, participating in, and synthesizing feedback.

Stakeholder Management
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to design rider and front-line staff friendly product interfaces and communication touchpoints.

  • Present your work to internal and external partners, providing the thinking and evidence behind key decisions.

  • Proactively identify, articulate, and elevate risks in a timely and appropriate manner.

Design Team Participation
  • Participate in UX Research and Design team activities, including operations meetings, knowledge shares, and work reviews.

Push TID to be Better
  • Be a committed, vocal, collaborative member of TID Leads and push for TID to do better in any/all dimensions of its work.

  • As a member of TID’s leadership team, this role is responsible for leading, practicing and upholding TID’s working agreements, which are essential to the department’s success.
