Job Description & How to Apply Below

At Car Gurus (NASDAQ: CARG), our mission is to give people the power to reach their destination. We started as a small team of developers determined to bring trust and transparency to car shopping. Since then, our history of innovation and go-to-market acceleration has driven industry-leading growth. In fact, we’re the largest and fastest-growing automotive marketplace, and we’ve been profitable for over 15 years.

What we do

The market is evolving, and we are too, moving the entire automotive journey online and guiding our customers through every step. That includes everything from the sale of an old car to the financing, purchase, and delivery of a new one. Today, tens of millions of consumers visit  each month, and ~30,000 dealerships use our products. But they're not the only ones who love Car Gurus—our employees do, too.

We have a people-first culture that fosters kindness, collaboration, and innovation, and empowers our Gurus with tools to fuel their career growth. Disrupting a trillion-dollar industry requires fresh and diverse perspectives. Come join us for the ride!

Role overview

Car Gurus is looking for a Senior UX Designer to craft intuitive, visually compelling, and high-performing experiences across our product ecosystem. You’ll join a collaborative team of designers, researchers, and writers working closely with product and engineering to solve meaningful customer and business problems.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, works independently, and takes full ownership of their design process-from framing the problem to delivering polished, well-rationalized solutions. While you'll typically work under the guidance of a Lead Designer who sets direction and provides mentorship, you're expected to operate as a trusted partner in your area, collaborating deeply across disciplines and pushing work forward with confidence and clarity.

We deploy designers flexibly across product lines based on their strengths, interests, and the organization's needs. You may be embedded in a specific area or rotate between projects depending on impact and opportunity.

This is also a pivotal time at Car Gurus as we explore how AI and emerging technologies will reshape both our tools and our user experiences. We’re looking for someone who’s not only aware of these trends but excited to help define how they’re applied—someone eager to experiment with AI-assisted workflows, smart content tools, and new patterns of interaction.

An online portfolio or access to work samples is required to apply.

What you'll do

  • Design end-to-end user experiences across Car Gurus product areas, balancing customer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility
  • Collaborate with engineers, PMs, researchers, and content designers to define problems, generate ideas, iterate quickly, and deliver impactful outcomes
  • Work with autonomy and accountability-navigating ambiguity, framing design questions, and making thoughtful decisions with minimal oversight
  • Conduct your own user research and usability testing as needed, with coordination support from our centralized UX research team
  • Lead or participate in design-thinking workshops to explore opportunities, align teams, and generate solutions
  • Create user flows, wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes grounded in evidence and tested with users
  • Apply customer insights, experimentation, and data to inform and improve your work
  • Contribute to and evolve our design systems to ensure consistency and quality
  • Leverage emerging tools and AI workflows to improve design efficiency, ideation, and content generation
  • Communicate clearly and proactively across teams, helping shape a collaborative, high-energy design culture

What you'll bring

  • 6+ years of experience in UX/product design with a strong portfolio showcasing both interaction and visual design excellence
  • Proficiency in Figma and a working knowledge of modern design systems
  • A self-starting, problem-solving mindset with comfort working in uncertain or evolving spaces
  • Experience with user research, usability testing, and design validation methods
  • Interest and deep familiarity in AI-enabled design tools, content automation, and emerging design…
