Role OverviewSenior Data Engineer – Platform Engineering team, Boston, MA. You’ll design, automate, and scale the cloud‑native data platform, deliver scalable, high‑performance data solutions, and support enterprise analytics and decision‑making.
Base Pay Range$120,000 – $160,000 per year.
Duties and Responsibilities- Collaborate with a small team of data engineers to drive data platform evolution and promote a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and SQL Server (T‑SQL).
- Implement configuration‑driven ingestion for batch and near real‑time data.
- Ingest, transform, and integrate data from APIs, JSON, CSV, XLS, and other sources.
- Analyze, design, and document data models (ERDs), create data dictionaries and data flow diagrams.
- Design and implement Lakehouse solutions leveraging Medallion architecture.
- Develop and maintain SSRS and Power BI datasets and reports.
- Oversee health, scalability, and security of the Azure‑based data platform.
- Support data governance, cataloging, and MDM initiatives.
- Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance best practices.
- Manage access controls, data lineage, and metadata for discoverability.
- Continuously evaluate and improve data engineering processes.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Git Hub Actions or Circle
CI. - Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for pipelines and platform health.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Evaluate and implement data quality and observability tools.
- Work closely with product and program managers to deliver data products.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and Agile ceremonies.
- Collaborate with offshore and cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
- Refine user stories and requirements for clarity.
- Onboard new teammates, mentor junior engineers, and facilitate career development.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering.
- 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering and BI, focused on Azure technologies.
- Deep expertise in SQL Server (2016+), Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and No
SQL databases. - Strong experience ingesting and integrating data from APIs, JSON, XML, CSV, XLS.
- Experience with configuration‑driven data ingestion and transformation processes.
- Strong understanding of Lakehouse architecture, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling.
- Experience with Power BI, SSRS, or Microsoft Fabric for reporting and analytics.
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools (ADO/Git Hub Actions/Circle
CI) and Data Ops practices. - Familiarity with data quality, observability, governance, cataloging, and MDM tools.
- Proficient in Agile methodologies; experience with Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog management.

The base salary range for this position in Boston is $120,000 to $160,000, plus annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation is determined by skills, experience, and location.
