Position: HR Generalist - Benefits & Absence Management

Overview

Reporting to the Sr. Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Generalist – Benefits & Absence Management is a key contributor to the Human Resources Department. They provide excellent customer service and partner with the team to achieve outstanding results. They manage Fenway Health’s benefits and absence management programs including health, voluntary, paid-time-off and retirement benefit programs, employee leaves of absence (e.g., FMLA, MA-PFML, STD/LTD), accommodations under Title I of the ADA, Workers’ Compensation, respond to benefit or leave related questions or issues, and assist with the development of associated HR policies.

The HR Generalist also helps with special projects and initiatives.

Representative Duties
  • Manage employee benefit plans and programs: Accountable for managing benefit plan operations; interpret policies, troubleshoot, deliver exemplary customer service, and ensure compliant, accurate, and timely administration of all health, welfare, voluntary, and paid time off plans.
  • Ensure benefit plan enrollments including new hires, mid-year changes, and terminations are handled timely and accurately.
  • Oversee regular plan audits including enrollment of eligible dependents; ensure enrollment data and paycheck premiums with holdings are accurate across all plans and programs.
  • Coordinate FSA/COBRA/HRA/pre-tax parking administration with third-party vendors.
  • Assist in annual contract renewals and annual open enrollment activities for all plans.
  • Assist in the development of benefit communications for new hires and open enrollment.
  • Present benefit plan information at new hire orientations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service; handle sensitive benefit-related issues or questions and interface with benefit carriers, vendors, and brokers.
  • Ensure invoices are received, audited, and paid timely.
  • Responsible for accuracy of all benefit vendor feeds.
  • Assist with renewals and open enrollment for out-of-state employees on PEO plans.
  • Assist with reporting requirements for regulatory reporting.
  • Oversee annual health and welfare non-discrimination testing and assist with plan audits.
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the tuition benefit program.
  • Assist with distribution of annual notifications as required by ERISA, the Department of Labor, and other regulatory bodies.
  • In partnership with HR Coordinator, coordinate ergonomic assessments for staff.
Manage Retirement Plan And Programs
  • Accountable for managing the 403(b) retirement plan; ensure plans are administered in compliance with federal/state regulations and Fenway Health policy.
  • Ensure retirement plan enrollments and changes are processed timely with plan administrator.
  • Oversee regular plan audits in collaboration with plan administrator and recordkeeper.
  • Staff the Retirement Investment Committee.
  • Counsel and communicate retirement plan information to staff; provide education on financial health and retirement planning.
  • Oversee annual non-discrimination testing and assist with plan audits.
Manage Employee Leaves Of Absence And Disability Benefits
  • Administer staff leaves of absence in compliance with federal, state, and jurisdictional requirements; oversee eligibility determinations and leave and pay entitlements for FMLA, PFML, other leaves, STD, and LTD.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for staff seeking a leave of absence; counsel on application, pay, PTO supplementation, and protected leave benefits.
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues on sensitive leave and employee relations issues; keep managers informed of status.
  • Coordinate determination of options when leave entitlement ends, including accommodations or other alternatives.
  • Work with Fenway Health’s workers’ compensation administrator; ensure employment protections concurrent with Workers’ Compensation; manage related documents and claims.
  • Ensure third-party vendors correctly calculate and award disability benefits.
