Job Responsibilities
- Communicate diet orders for each meal to the department Data Center.
- Implement diet orders and verify that a tray with the correct diet order is provided for each patient.
- Obtain trays from the tray line for new admissions or patients whose diets have advanced.
- Prepare and serve trays, coffee/tea, and ice cream or yogurt from the galley freezer.
- Garnish trays, remove all wrappings, and assist patients in opening milk, juice, and condiments.
- Collect dirty trays and give patients menu selection sheets, daily specials sheets, and explain the selection process.
- Assist patients who are unable to complete the selection sheet independently.
- Use Excellent Encounter skills of customer service throughout interactions.
- Clean the galley after each meal served and complete special cleaning on designated days.
- Inventory and order nourishment items and supplements for patients between meals or for the next day’s trays, discarding outdated items.
- Inventory and order supplies for the nursing nourishment area, pick supplies from the Service Center, store them, and rotate perishable items.
- Maintain strong relationships with co‑workers and staff on the unit.
- Communicate patient eating ability or willingness to the clinical dietitian.
- Orient or train new employees within the department when required.
- Provide patient‑specific care in accordance with the department’s policies and procedures.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Basic computer and math skills; basic computer proficiency.
- Food service experience desirable; knowledge of diet modification and religious food practices for sick patients.
- Ability to implement exemplary customer service skills as outlined in Excellent Encounter training.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.
- Attention to detail and capacity to work efficiently, organize work, and meet deadlines.
- Basic problem‑solving and judgment ability; able to work independently.
- Capable of lifting 25–30 lbs. and standing for extended periods during most of the shift.
- Motor coordination skills.
- Facility required: N95 mask.
