Job Profile SummaryFocus on revenue cycle operations (billing, collections, payment processing) and Health Information Management duties: accuracy, maintenance, security, confidentiality of patient health information. Admin/clerical role supporting daily business activities under moderate supervision.
Job OverviewResponsible for smooth operation of the medical records department, mentoring co‑workers, supervising EMR/Transcription clerks, managing workflow, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of dictated information, tracking Operative Reports, liaison with house staff for completion of undictated records.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience with medical records, EMR, and scanning solutions.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- Transcription experience.
- Retrieve records of newly discharged patients, ensure receipt, reconcile, and sign out charts.
- Analyze and process daily inpatient and outpatient medical records per departmental policies, ensuring correct patient identification.
- Update incomplete records, sign in/out, and file completed medical records.
- Retrieve records for patient care, hospital reviews, authorized third‑party reviewers, and other requestors.
- Assist transcription coordinator in resolving incorrectly transcribed reports.
- Generate PIN numbers for hospital patient portal access and assist patients in sign‑up.
- Scan records, confirm proper scan, troubleshoot Meditech reports, and flag issues to supervisor/IS.
- Perform interim checks of incomplete records; update ICR system and suspension spreadsheets; coordinate physician suspension processes.
- Conduct monthly audits.
- Review Health Care Proxies and MOLST forms; scan into Meditech; return incomplete documents.
- Assist with preparation for external audits.
- Merge medical records when required.
- Assist customers entering the department, answer telephones, relay messages.
- Use Outlook email and calendar promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Office environment with computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
- Mostly sedentary; may involve walking, standing, reaching, operating equipment.
- Regular communication skills required.
- Vision for reading computer displays and print.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Computer literacy, word processing, spreadsheets, learning new applications.
- Customer service, interpersonal, telephone skills.
- High degree of tact with patients, physicians, insurance companies.
- Accurate data entry.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and flex with assignments.
$18.81 - $23.51 per hour
