Research Technician – Next-generation, Translational Pathology Studies
The Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking a Research Technician to focus on next‑generation translational pathology studies within the Wolpin‑Nowak Laboratory.

Our research group is part of the Hale Family Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research: and the Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Laboratory at DFCI.
Our laboratory investigates the biology and risk factors associated with pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers. We aim to improve outcomes by identifying cancer earlier and enhancing therapy. By studying human biospecimens, we translate discoveries rapidly into clinical care.
Our team includes epidemiologists, biostatisticians, pathologists, data scientists, molecular biologists, and clinical researchers. We employ a broad variety of approaches: population‑scale epidemiology, digital pathology, genomic sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and protein profiling. Our work encompasses clinical trial correlative studies and landscape‑directed discovery. We collaborate closely with the GI Cancer Center Biobank to acquire blood, tissue, and other sample types from DFCI patients, and partner across the nation on model systems and clinical trials.
Responsibilities- Perform experimental analyses, conduct quality control review of data, interpret results, and share findings via formal presentations and reports.
- Prepare biospecimens for analysis, including sectioning of formalin‑fixed paraffin‑embedded tissue.
- Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment.
- Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas; may be responsible for ordering supplies and negotiating with vendors.
- Maintain detailed records tracking experiments and related activities in electronic or written notebooks.
- Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health & Safety information and laboratory SOPs.
- Stay current with relevant literature to demonstrate intellectual commitment.
- Use computers and computer‑interfaced instrumentation to perform work duties.
- Assist with needs of the GI Biobank, including blood processing and sample organization.
- Develop, modify, and improve laboratory assays under supervision of senior lab members.
- Examine animal tissue specimens for projects involving collaborating laboratories.
- Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with diverse faculty and staff.
- Analytical skills to address work‑related issues and problems.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Bachelor's Degree required; major in biology or chemistry preferred.
- Knowledge of biology, chemistry, or medicine preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem‑solving ability.

- Experience with programming in R, Python or similar languages is a plus.
- Familiarity with tissue‑based pathology analysis is a plus.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and candidate's relevant experience, skills and qualifications. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
