Cardiac Sonographer/ Echo Tech — 40 hours — Days — Boston, MA

We re offering a $3,000 sign-on bonus for a candidate with a minimum of two years  experience. Bonus details will be discussed during the interview process. Not available to recent or current MGB employees.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief Sonographer and Medical Director, this position is responsible for independently performing 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler echocardiograms. The role includes assisting in inventory of supplies and equipment maintenance and requires a high level of knowledge to read and interpret test results, especially abnormal or atypical findings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler echocardiograms; be proficient in non-imaging continuous Doppler to obtain effective results for diagnosing and imaging pathologies (Valvular, Congenital, Systolic, Diastology).
  • Interpret test results and notify referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report.
  • Assist in scheduling cardiac ultrasound procedures for inpatients and outpatients when there is availability questions or full schedule.
  • Be responsible for inventory of supplies in the Echo Lab.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment with approved hospital disinfectant and follow Infection Control guidelines.
  • Maintain echo equipment to address minor operational issues; refer difficult problems to the echo supervisor.
  • Review patient charts to obtain pertinent clinical history to perform tests and accurately interpret and perform cardiac examinations.
  • Explain procedures to the patient and position the patient for the cardiac ultrasound examination; ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Perform portable studies as needed, moving equipment as required.
  • Record and review test results for accuracy; utilize electronic medical records and reporting systems to obtain a permanent record of the examination.
  • Record, calculate and plot control values on technical instruments to ensure reliability and accuracy of results.
  • Maintain testing rooms in clean and orderly condition; dispose of soiled linen and stock necessary supplies; clean equipment such as cables, transducers, and the ultrasound machine.
  • Keep current with developments in technical instrumentation and trends in cardiac ultrasound by reviewing journals and attending approved seminars and meetings.
  • Perform minor clerical duties as required by the echo supervisor or Technical Director.
  • Perform all other duties as necessary; all testing is performed without physician assistance with minimal supervision of results by the echo supervisor.

    • Prepare detailed reports of findings for review and interpretation by cardiologists.
    • Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment, including calibration and quality assurance checks.
