Job DescriptionThe Department of Health Care Policy (HCP) is a dynamic, data-driven research environment that brings together economists, statisticians, physicians, and health services researchers focused on improving health and health care delivery through comprehensive policy research and education. Under the direction of Professor Haiden Huskamp, the Research Assistant will coordinate the daily operations of research projects in the field of health policy, including topics related to the health and economic effects of policies governing mental health and substance use disorder treatment and prescription drugs.
Current projects focus on the role of telemedicine in mental health and addiction care; factors influencing the low rates of use of medications that treat alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder; and the impacts of changes in provider payment policies on access to mental health and addiction treatment services, quality of care, and spending.
The primary task will be to use statistical software to work with large data sets, including insurance claims datasets, creating and managing data files that can be analyzed and conducting statistical analyses under the supervision of Dr. Huskamp. The Research Assistant is expected to have strong critical thinking and excellent writing skills to assist with drafting and preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals.
The Research Assistant will participate in team meetings and has strong verbal and written communication skills in conveying and discussing methods and analyses with faculty collaborators and other team members. The Research Assistant will also conduct literature reviews. This position is ideal for candidates with an interest in health policy and who have plans for future doctoral studies.

Basic Qualifications- One or more years of related research experience or relevant coursework.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, and/or STATA.
- Background in statistical programming and basic understanding of econometrics or statistics.
- BA or BS in economics, statistics, public policy, political science, or related field with quantitative coursework.
- Interest, experience, or background in health policy research.
- Proficient with most computer software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and willing to learn other statistical or computer software as needed.
- Independent judgement, patience, and excellent communication skills to respond efficiently to varied/complex tasks.
- Organization and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and ability to work in a team.
- Term: One-year term position from the date of hire with possibility of extension, contingent upon performance and continued funding.

Schedule:
35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm - Visa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
