PositionRole: Patient Care Technician
Department: IMCU
Schedule: 36 hours/week – NIGHTS. Schedule includes every other weekend.
About the Critical Care/3W IMCU Department at Boston Medical Center: BMC s Surgical Step Down unit is a 38-bed unit providing care for intermediate level surgical patients. The patient population includes post-operative and surgical specialty patients, including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant patients and cardiothoracic surgery.
Job Responsibilities- Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
- Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
- Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
- A high school diploma or GED certificate
- Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
- Ability to pass clinical competency testing
- Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
- Basic math and computer proficiency
- One of the following:
- One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
- Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training
- Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
- One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
- Fluency in another language a plus
- Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

CompensationCompensation Range: $23.19 - $27.17
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. Our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
