Overview
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 364 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215. Medical Assistant - Joslin Diabetes, Boston, MA. Full-time, Day shift.
Responsibilities- Performs medical assisting duties which may include vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, phlebotomy, and assisting during routine procedures. Ensure patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient use. Escort patients to ancillary service areas as needed.
- Perform point-of-care testing, laboratory testing, and specimen collection. Implement quality control standards and provide patients with relevant test instructions.
- Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, proper stock, and current expiration dates.
- Review medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners. May retrieve Schedule VI and over-the-counter medications under supervision; not authorized to perform duties requiring licensed personnel.
- Use the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals and, as directed, enter/scribe orders for tests, services, or appointments. Document tasks in OMR during visits for accurate billing.
- Prepare schedules, patient charts, and other documents for clinical activities; procure and correlate medical correspondence as directed by the department.
- Monitor patients and visitors, facilitate timely flow, and inform patients and providers of delays. Act as a liaison between patient and staff and assist with telephone screening as needed.
- High School diploma or GED
- 0-1 years related work experience
- Basic computer familiarity; ability to navigate basic web-based applications
- MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting, such as MA, PCT, CNA, or nursing/medical student with clinical rotation
- Phlebotomy certificate
Pay Range: $21.00 – $28.26 per hour. The base wage may be supplemented by shift differentials, call pay, overtime, and other applicable pay practices in accordance with law.
