POSITION SUMMARY
Performs clinic support in both the clinical and administrative areas. In the clinical area the practice assistant, under the direction and supervision of a licensed Nurse or Provider, participates in the delivery of patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice. In the administrative area the practice assistant gathers patient information for registration, schedules appointments, verifies demographic and financial information and assists in facilitating patient flow throughout the ambulatory setting.

Schedule: Part Time - 7:30am to 1:30pm
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIESDelivers care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is respectful to patients.
Duties include:
- Checks two patient identifiers
- Collects and documents vital signs, reason for visit, and medical/family/social history
- Enters allergies and smoking status
- Documents current medications and prescriptions needing renewal
- Obtains immunization records/history and enters findings into the medical record
- Instructs patient on provider preparation, assisting as necessary
- Anticipates/prepares special equipment and supplies for the visit
- Performs preventative/population health management screens and questionnaires (e.g., PHQ2) and records findings
- Arranges refills information for provider approval
- Downloads glucometer and other device data for provider review
- Alerts the provider when patient is ready and communicates abnormalities in findings
- Follows department documentation standards for a complete and accurate patient record
- Updates patient pharmacy information
Skills:
Maintains competence in a range of technical tasks (e.g., cast/splint care, vital signs, EKGs, POCT, phlebotomy, etc.).

- Chronic wound treatment (e.g., wound graft)
- MOHS surgery
- Excisional surgery
- Laser treatment
- Cosmetic procedures (e.g., peels, fillers)
- Urodynamic studies
- Flow rate/voiding trials
- Low-dye taping
- Phototherapy and PUVA
- Gathers/assists with registration information; ensures accurate data entry into the computer system
- Verifies insurance coverage and prior approvals as needed
- Collects payments at time of service and explains financial obligations
- Directs patients to financial assistance resources
- Creates/obtains medical records; assigns medical record numbers; manages chart screening
- Uses computer systems to enter/read patient information and communicate findings
- Maintains clinic files; stamps/dates charts; handles clinic mail and notices
- Handles cross-booking for linked appointments and reschedules canceled sessions
- Enters charge and diagnosis codes; manages equipment and supply inventories
- Maintains population health outreach registries for preventive care
