Position

Role: Patient Care Technician

Department: IMCU

Schedule: 36 hours/week – NIGHTS. Schedule includes every other weekend.

About the Critical Care/3W IMCU Department at Boston Medical Center

BMC s Surgical Step Down unit is a 38-bed unit providing care for intermediate level surgical patients. The patient population includes post-operative and surgical specialty patients, including trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplant patients and cardiothoracic surgery.

Position Summary

As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team er the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families.

You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.

  • Clinical services include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.

  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care department.

  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED certificate

  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR (current or obtained within 30 days of employment)

  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing

  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities

  • Basic math and computer proficiency

  • One of the following:

    • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting

    • Currently enrolled in a nursing program with two clinical rotation cycles completed

    • Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training

    • Completed an approved certified medical assistant training

    • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (for adult ED positions only)

  • Fluency in another language is a plus

  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Compensation

Compensation Range: $23.19 - $27.17 per hour

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. Our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
