About the Maternal Child Health/Mother Baby Department at Boston Medical Center

Patient Care Technician for the Post‑Partum Unit and Newborn Nursery provide couplet care to patients that have recently delivered in our Labor & Delivery unit. As a Magnet recognized organization, these nurses provide care to the whole family, ensuring the first few days of care have set the family up for success.

Position Summary

As a Patient Care Technician in the Maternal Child Health/Mother Baby Department, you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient‑centered care model you will be uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, and will be able to deliver the excellent care to your patients that they deserve.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the ED and their families.
  • Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
Job Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing.
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities.
  • Basic math and computer proficiency.
  • One of the following:
    One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting.
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation.
  • Completed an approved patient care technician training.
  • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only).
  • Fluency in another language a plus.
  • Previous medical/surgical experience preferred.

Compensation Range

$23.19–$27.17

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. Our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
