Patient Care Assistant – Adult Inpatient Medicine - Bigelow 14

Bigelow 14 is a twenty-seven-bed adult inpatient unit. The unit serves patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and geographic areas that present with acute and complex medical problems. Patients are generally admitted to our unit from the Emergency Department or as a transfer from one of the intensive care units.

• Per diem
• Available for days/nights and weekends
• Per diem roles do not get a fixed schedule.
• Per diem roles are offered different shifts based on unit need and unit availability.

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

• Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
• Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
• Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
• Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks, including bathing, dressing, toilet assistance, and feeding.
• Assists with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
• Listens to any health concerns patients may have and reports those concerns to the nurses.

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

• Basic Life Support (BLS Certification) – preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) – preferred.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (Massachusetts) – preferred.
• Nursing Assistant (LNA – Massachusetts) – preferred.

Experience working in patient care/elder care 1-2 years preferred.

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
