SummaryResponsible for overseeing and coordinating phlebotomy procedures within a healthcare facility. This role is also responsible for serving as a laboratory liaison to patients, nursing personnel, and staff, and assures excellence in quality and safety of blood collection and analysis.

Essential Functions- Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
- Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
- May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
- Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- May assume charge responsibilities or other tasks from the Lead Phlebotomist, as assigned.
- Oversees staff training and competency assessments, ensuring proper documentation.
- Troubleshot complex issues in collaboration with other departments and reviewed quality control and reports as assigned.
- Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations.
- Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required (No experience in lieu of a degree).
- Licenses and Credentials:
- Phlebotomy Technician [National Certification] (Generic - HR Only required).
- Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver’s License [State License] (Generic - HR Only preferred).
- Experience: Experience in phlebotomy 3-5 years required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
- Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
- Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients’ privacy and autonomy.
- Demonstrates complex problem‑solving skills outside of everyday occurrences and is proficient in downtime procedures and protocols.
- May specialize in a specific process, patient population, or testing type.
- Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others’ experiences and perspectives.
