Per Diem Medical Scribe – Chestnut Hill and Needham Dermatology Clinics

Boston, MA

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Dermatology practice at Chestnut Hill and Needham provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic care in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. The Medical Scribe works directly alongside dermatology providers to document patient encounters in real time within Epic.

This role provides hands‑on exposure to clinical operations and medical decision‑making, offering valuable experience for individuals pursuing careers in medicine or other healthcare professions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Accompanies a physician into the patient examination room to transcribe a history and physical exam, documenting accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
  • Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow‑up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
  • Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider; enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR as directed; transcribes patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Documents any procedures performed by the physician.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 0‑1 year of related work experience required.
  • Experience with medical terminology and recognition of the physical exam process, with ability to record exam details.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web‑based applications and some Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access).

    Interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and external contacts to offer ideas and obtain information.
  • Customer Service:
    Provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service‑oriented, respectful manner using active listening and problem solving; remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently. The job requires standing and/or moving around through the majority of the shift.

Pay Range: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour (base hourly wage; may exceed with shift differentials, shift pay, overtime, etc.)
