JOB TITLE: Clinical Director
REPORTS TO: Program Director
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Recovery Home Clinical Director provides clinical team leadership and supervision to counselors and case managers in a BSAS‑licensed residential substance use disorder (SUD) treatment program. This role is responsible for overseeing the coordination and delivery of evidence‑based treatment services, ensuring compliance with 105 CMR 164.000, and supporting the professional development of clinical staff.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide weekly individual and group clinical supervision to assigned clinical staff and interns, including hours toward licensure when applicable.
- Maintain and submit monthly supervision logs in accordance with agency policy.
- Guide clinical staff in documentation, case conceptual, risk assessment, and culturally responsive practices.
- Lead or co‑lead weekly clinical meetings and multidisciplinary team case reviews.
- Offer performance feedback, identify growth areas, and support professional development in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Assist in clinical crisis response and debriefing, and promote best practices in trauma‑informed care.
- Obtain ongoing insurance authorizations (initial and continued stay) through contracted Mass Health providers.
- Process all billing in the EHR for clients insured through contracted Mass Health plans.
- Review and co‑sign documentation for pre‑licensed staff and interns, including psych socials, ASI, treatment plans, progress notes, assessments, discharge summaries, and after‑care plans.
- Ensure all documentation is completed within 24–72 hours of service delivery and meets payor and internal standards.
- Oversee billing compliance by verifying that all billable services (e.g., 1:1 therapy, group sessions, phase groups) are properly documented and coded in the EHR.
- Conduct monthly chart audits using standardized tools; document findings and implement corrective actions.
- Responsible for completion of the Quarterly Record Review in the EHR.
- Maintain logs of documentation errors and corrections to ensure audit readiness and continuous quality improvement.
- Integrate billing and documentation guidance into regular clinical supervision and training efforts.
- Coordinate with the Program Director, Intake Coordinator, and clinical staff to align client onboarding, assessment, and treatment planning processes.
- Collaborate with external agencies to coordinate residents’ treatment.
- Support clinicians in developing treatment plans at appropriate intervals (initial, 30/60/90/120/150 day, discharge, after‑care).
- Promote person‑centered, ethical care practices that meet the needs of clients with co‑occurring disorders.
- Ensure documentation adheres to mandatory reporting, incident tracking, and discharge protocols.
- Participate in monthly compliance meetings to report audit trends and share clinical insights.
- Support clinical program development through evaluation and integration of evidence‑based practices.
- Participate in strategic planning and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with program leadership and compliance staff on the development and maintenance of clinical SOPs and policy updates.
- Monitor alignment of clinical practices with BSAS licensing standards and Medicaid billing requirements.
- Plan and deliver quarterly (or more frequent) in‑service training on clinical and compliance topics.
- Ensure training is trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with current BSAS and billing regulations.
- Encourage reflective practice and promote a culture of ongoing learning and professional growth.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Director or agency leadership.
- Master’s degree in psychology, clinical social work, counseling, psychiatric nursing, or a closely related field OR current Massachusetts licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC I).
