Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) has been ensuring equitable and dignified access to high‑quality health care for individuals and families with homelessness in greater Boston since 1985. Over 10,000 homeless persons receive comprehensive care each year, ranging from preventative dental services to cancer treatment. Our clinicians, case managers and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of the community’s most vulnerable and resilient citizens.

We’re seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists and ensure smooth daily operations. Responsibilities include preparing, filing, and labeling prescriptions, expediting patient interactions, and proactively notifying patients when prescriptions are ready.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical and dispensing tasks, including prescription preparation, inventory management, and utilising dispensing technology.
  • Relay the pharmacist’s offer to counsel the patient or responsible person.
  • With the pharmacist’s approval, request and accept authorisations for refills from a prescriber or prescriber’s agent when no information has changed from the previous prescription, except over the phone.
  • With the pharmacist’s approval, assist in the transport of Schedule II controlled substances.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age and high‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical or customer‑service setting.
  • State licensure/registration.
  • Completion of a board‑approved training program or at least 500 hours of experience as a pharmacy‑technician trainee.
Basic Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience managing multiple competing priorities; excellent prioritisation skills and creation of a safe, effective environment.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills and ability to analyse data, identify trends and report findings effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail; quality focused.
  • Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting complex information to senior leaders.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, integrity, judgement, discretion and decision‑making to achieve objectives.
  • Quick learner with a customer‑service mindset.
Desired Skills
  • Familiarity with the 340B program.
  • Familiarity with adherence packaging and home delivery.
  • Familiarity with the Mass Health ACO program.
  • Familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Centers.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly wages range from $23.80 to $35.70, increasing with experience.
  • Full‑time employees have access to competitive time‑off, health, dental, and vision insurance, a 403B retirement plan, a 40% discount on MBTA passes, plus additional compensation for bilingual proficiency and other benefits. Part‑time benefits are prorated.
