The role of the Laboratory Manager is to assist with ongoing experiments of Dr. Beltran and other members of the Beltran Lab and manage the lab's daily operations. The Laboratory Manager is expected to maintain a high level of organization and accountability in this highly visible role. This position ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements; reviews laboratory protocols of all research groups;

maintains laboratory spaces and equipment; and acts as a liaison between staff and key stakeholders. The Specialist will have the opportunity to learn and utilize a variety of research techniques and may co‑author publications when appropriate.

Lab Focus

The Beltran Lab primarily focuses on understanding mechanisms of treatment resistance in prostate cancer and lineage plasticity during cancer evolution. We collaborate with basic scientists, computational biologists, pathologists, and oncologists within the DF/HCC.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of RDSs to ensure correct sample inventories of blood and tissue‑derived samples.
  • Handle all receiving, storage, and retrieval requests; arrange sample transport; audit inventory; enter data into database systems and place samples in correct temperature storage.
  • Work with frequent users to maximize efficiency and batch requests when feasible.
  • Track lab samples, manage freezer inventory, order supplies, submit billing charges, and assist with ad‑hoc projects and reports.
  • Hire and train RDS staff for proficient sample management in all chains of custody.
  • Lead and direct the RDS team.
  • Collaborate with the Thub team for seamless specimen collections, inventories, and transfers.
  • Manage billing invoices to external and internal customers.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and schedule repairs as needed.
  • Update biospecimen‑related SOPs.
  • Participate in grant preparation, manuscript writing, progress reports, and generation of research presentations for scientific conferences.
  • Assist PI in monitoring, enabling, and facilitating collaborations with other programs.
  • Engage in active intellectual involvement in research projects.
  • Organize lab space, ensure equipment and software maintenance, and order supplies.
  • Assist in generation and maintenance of research tools; maintain general knowledge of molecular or computational biology techniques.
  • Manage efficient administration of protocols and materials/stocks.
  • Train and manage RDSs and guide recruitment of technical staff.
  • Conduct annual reviews of technical staff performance.
  • Assist PI with counseling, teaching, training, mentoring, orientation, in‑service and continuing education for laboratory staff and trainees.
  • Ensure all lab staff are compliant with mandatory trainings required by DFCI, NIH and sponsors.
  • Organize and schedule lab meetings, staff onboarding, and ensure compliance with all lab safety guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional people‑management and organization skills with demonstrated ability to multitask in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytic, and problem‑solving skills to evaluate all aspects of a problem and facilitate timely decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with diverse colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3‑5 years of experience managing research laboratories in biological sciences.
  • Strong knowledge of HR activities and solid writing skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with cancer research laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, safety, compliance, and record keeping.

Salary Range

$88,000.00 – $ (market‑based)
