Medical Assistant II - Fertility Assistant

Mass General Brigham invites candidates to apply for the Medical Assistant II - Fertility Assistant position. This is a non‑profit organization focused on patient care, research, and community service. The role is located at 32 Fruit Street, on site, with a typical schedule of 40 weekly hours (option of 4x10 or 5x8 shifts). The clinic operates 7 days a week.

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant supports healthcare teams by providing clinical and non‑clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, interacting directly with patients, and collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions
  • Assist junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day tasks and help facilitate training and onboarding.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, completing insurance forms, and acting as a liaison with other departments while advocating for patients with a positive customer‑service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations (as applicable), requiring certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Assist in improving departmental quality initiatives such as proper patient identification and hand hygiene.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required;
Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred. This role does not accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) - preferred.
Experience

Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex, busy environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Use of logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Time management skills for oneself and others.
