Medical Assistant - Primary Care (40 hrs/wk, days)
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides medical/nursing support functions to provider staff in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities include specimen procurement (phlebotomy) and related procedures according to BMC policy and standards set by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

Schedule: Full Time, 40 Hours, Days
Essential Responsibilities / Duties- Patient Care Duties:
- Obtains and documents required patient information (age, weight, address, next of kin, etc.).
- Notifies clinical staff of any changes or unusual findings.
- Assists clinical staff during procedures and exams, including room set‑ups, patient preparation, instrument handling, chaperone duties, and patient restraint as needed.
- Instructs patients/families on procedures and discharge instructions.
- Obtains EKG when ordered.
- Performs phlebotomy, prepares specimens, completes order forms/labels, and delivers specimens to labs.
- Reviews charts for accuracy and completeness, obtains lab/test results, and completes pre‑procedure checklists.
- Schedules appointments and/or procedures.
- Transports/escorts patients/families as needed.
- Obtains hemodynamic measurements (pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height).
- Performs clerical and support duties: telephone answering, record preparation, charge entry, ordering supplies, inventory, and general office duties.
- Maintains area equipment, cleans and restocks exam rooms, and ensures compliance with safety and quality standards.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program (required).
- BLS CPR Certification preferred.
- CMA certification preferred.
- 2 years of healthcare service work experience strongly preferred.
- Clinical competency testing passed.
- Effective written and oral English communication; additional language skills a plus.
- Basic math skills for measurements.
- Computer proficiency.
- Physical ability to transfer patients and lift heavy loads.
- Organizational skills and stress management.
Salary range: $24.09 – $28.22 per hour. Includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) matching, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
