Customer Relations and Pharmacy Concierge Technician – Outpatient Pharmacy

Join Boston Medical Center (BMC) as a Customer Relations and Pharmacy Concierge Technician in our outpatient pharmacy. This role is responsible for providing high‑quality, patient‑focused pharmacy services and serves as the face of the pharmacy for patients who require special attention.

Position Summary

This technician will handle high‑level patient interactions, concierge services, complex billing, and medication synchronization. Responsibilities include soliciting patient feedback, handling provider inquiries, managing PA requests, and training junior technicians.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • National certification (CPT) from the Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT) required.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in outpatient pharmacy operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, telephone communication, and pharmaceutical calculation skills.
  • Ability to perform at a high level in all aspects of outpatient pharmacy operations and maintain competency in all areas.
  • Strong knowledge of medication therapy management, third‑party billing, PA submissions, and coordination of benefits.
  • Experience using NRX, EPIC, and related systems for patient record management.
Responsibilities
  • Accurate and timely processing of prescription orders, refills, and enrollment data.
  • Communicate with customers to obtain necessary information and address delays.
  • Maintain communication with healthcare providers and follow‑up on new prescriptions and refills.
  • Provide medication therapy management and medication synchronization services.
  • Perform complex third‑party billing, PA submissions, and coordination of benefits.
  • Assist in patient experience improvement initiatives and action plans.
  • Update patient records in NRX, EPIC, and related systems.
  • Verify and add insurance information, check patient profiles for prescriptions and refills, and determine copays.
  • Set up prescription transfers both within and outside the pharmacy network.
  • Identify patient‑specific needs to improve pharmacy experience.
  • Answer telephone calls and voicemail promptly and courteously.
  • Resolve patient questions and concerns efficiently.
  • Synchronize prescription fill dates and align medication schedules.
  • Data‑enter new prescriptions accurately, including billing to third parties, compounds, and DMEPOS.
  • Resolve third‑party insurance billing issues.
  • Complete all necessary daily and weekly reports and paperwork.
Compensation

USD $24.28 - $35.10 per hour. The range is based on minimum qualifications; actual pay considers experience, skills, certifications, and organizational factors.
