Breast Ultrasound Technologist-U (Part time)
Under the general supervision of the Breast Imaging Manager and Lead Technologists, the Breast Ultrasound Technologist generates diagnostic sonographic images of the breast for radiologists while implementing department policies and procedures.
SchedulePart time – M: 7:30‑4 & F: 7:30‑4
Essential Responsibilities / Duties- Perform a wide variety of breast ultrasound exams and assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures such as biopsies and aspirations.
- Prepare the examination room, ultrasound equipment, and all supplies to maintain infection‑control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
- Complete exams in a timely manner while ensuring high‑quality images for radiology and outside departments.
- Position and reassure patients to ensure comfort and safety throughout the examination.
- Follow all departmental policies and procedures, including high‑level disinfection practices.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to maximize uptime and minimize cost impact, keeping exam rooms clean and ready for use.
- Communicate effectively with patients, respond to telephone inquiries, and provide exceptional customer service.
- Accommodate patient and staffing needs through flexible scheduling and timely completion of studies.
- Monitor patient conditions during exams and notify the manager or lead technologist if additional assistance is needed.
- Operate all electronic systems (PACS, RIS, Epic, etc.) efficiently and accurately record documentation, requisitions, and billing details.
- Adhere to BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards and uphold hospital values in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager or lead technologist.
Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in diagnostic medical sonography from a two‑year college or certificate program.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations Required- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – OB, AB, or RVT
- Accreditation must be attained prior to hire (one year to obtain accreditation for OB/GYN).
Experience in a related clinical area is preferred; breast ultrasound experience highly preferred.
Knowledge And Skills- Strong knowledge of breast ultrasound principles, procedures, and equipment operation and maintenance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, coworkers, and physicians.
