Position Details
  • Position: Ambulatory Services Representative II
  • Department: Breast Imaging/Radiology
  • Schedule: Full Time
  • Position Summary: The incumbent supports the clinical practice by focusing on billing, charge entries, billing edits, charge reconciliations, billing inquiries, insurance carrier correspondence, and investigation of billing discrepancies. Additional duties include front‑end customer service, patient registration, insurance/coverage verification, appointment scheduling, and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Bill and manage care functions, including responding to billing inquiries, corresponding with insurance carriers, and investigating discrepancies.
  • Provide general administrative support, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software to create and edit departmental documents and presentations.
  • Support physicians and department managers by managing calendars, scheduling appointments, answering departmental calls, and credentialing documents.
  • Handle reception, customer service, creation or verification of Master Patient Index (MPI), registration demographics, visit management, appointment scheduling for consults, tests, procedures, and follow‑up visits.
  • Perform insurance/coverage verification, co‑payment collection, front‑end review, and correction of registration and insurance edits.
  • Obtain pre‑authorizations, coordinate referrals, and reconcile referral work lists.
  • Execute administrative duties such as handling phones and mail, filling out forms, filing, photocopying, faxing, preparing letters and reports.
  • Adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.
Job Requirements Education
  • HS/GED plus 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or
  • Associate’s degree plus 1 year relevant experience.
  • Experience with medical billing or a similar setting preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills for courteous, patient‑focused interactions.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with independent judgment, thinking, and creativity in resolving customer issues.
  • Strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), web/internet. Experience with standard hospital registration and billing systems or ability to learn them.
Compensation Range

$22.36 – $27.26 per hour. This range reflects minimum job qualifications, but base pay is determined by education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to the role.
