Billing and Payment Director - Hiscox USA

Overview:

The Billing and Payment Director is responsible for architecting and leading a world-class billing and payments capability for Hiscox US. This role is accountable for the end-to-end strategy, transformation, and operational excellence of billing, collections, and payment processes across all insurance products and channels. The Director will drive innovation, automation, and customer-centricity, ensuring seamless, compliant, and efficient billing and payment experiences that support business growth and retention.

A key focus is fostering a healthy, high-performance culture and strong cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Finance, Technology, Underwriting, and Customer teams.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop and execute a forward-looking billing and payments strategy aligned with Hiscox US growth objectives, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

* Lead transformation initiatives to modernize billing and payment platforms, leveraging automation, digital tools, and best practices to drive efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

* Design, implement, and continuously improve end-to-end billing, invoicing, collections, and payment processes for all products and channels.

* Champion a customer-first approach, ensuring billing and payment touchpoints are clear, transparent, and frictionless.

* Partner with Operations, Finance, Technology, Underwriting, and Customer Service to optimize processes, resolve issues, and deliver seamless experiences.

* Ensure all billing and payment operations adhere to regulatory, audit, and internal control standards; proactively manage operational risk and compliance.

* Establish robust reporting, analytics, and dashboards to monitor billing performance, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.

* Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing billing and payments team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

* Lead change initiatives, ensuring effective communication, training, and adoption of new processes and technologies across the organization.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

* Operations:
Align on process optimization, automation, and operational readiness for new billing initiatives.

* Finance:
Partner on cash flow, collections, reconciliation, and financial reporting.

* Technology:
Co-lead billing platform enhancements, integrations, and automation projects.

* Underwriting:
Ensure billing processes support product design, risk appetite, and policy administration.

* Customer Service:
Collaborate to resolve billing inquiries, disputes, and deliver a seamless customer journey.

* Compliance & Risk:
Ensure all billing and payment activities meet regulatory and internal standards.

Technical Capabilities:

* Deep expertise in billing, payments, and collections platforms (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).

* Strong knowledge of digital payment solutions, automation/RPA, and customer self-service tools.

* Proficiency with data analytics, reporting, and dashboarding tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau).

* Experience with ERP, CRM, and policy administration system integrations.

* Familiarity with regulatory requirements for billing and payments in insurance/financial services.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

* 10+ years in billing, payments, or revenue operations, with at least 5+ years in insurance or financial services.

* Proven experience leading transformation and modernization of billing and payment functions.

* Strong leadership, change management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred

Skills:

* Experience with large-scale billing platform implementations or migrations.

* Expertise in process automation, digital transformation, and customer experience design.

* Hands-on knowledge of insurance policy administration and financial systems.

* Skilled in SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools for reporting and analytics.

* Familiarity with Agile project delivery and change management best practices.

* Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
