Position: Director of Finance - (Manufacturing / New Bedford / Growth by M&A)

Director of Finance - New Bedford, MA – Manufacturing

We are a growing full‑service signage design and manufacturing company. We are hiring a Director of Finance to be the fourth member of the leadership team, working alongside the President, VP of Operations, and Sales.

Location: New Bedford, MA (full‑time in office)

Compensation: $150,000–$160,000 base salary, bonus potential, and excellent benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Own the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely, accurate financial statements.
  • Rebuild and maintain disciplined reconciliations for all key balance sheet accounts (cash, inventory, WIP, fixed assets, accruals, etc.).
  • Prepare and review journal entries, supporting schedules, and variance analyses.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for core accounting processes.
  • Lead job‑based cost accounting, including standard and actual job costing, overhead allocation, and margin analysis by job.
  • Oversee WIP accounting, inventory valuation, and reconciliation of inventory sub‑ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Provide job and customer profitability analyses to support pricing, quoting, and strategic decisions.
  • Serve as the finance lead for the recently implemented Keyed In Manufacturing ERP system.
  • Stabilize and optimize financial modules (GL, AP, AR, inventory, job costing) and related workflows.
  • Oversee data integrity, including master data, item setup, job structures, and chart of accounts.
  • Reconcile ERP sub‑ledgers to the GL; identify and resolve discrepancies arising from the ERP implementation.
  • Oversee high‑volume purchasing, AP, and AR activities to ensure accurate, timely processing and proper cut‑off.
  • Ensure proper sales tax calculation, filing, and compliance across 10–12 states.
  • Monitor credit and collections, customer terms, and cash application to support healthy cash flow.
  • Review and approve supplier payments, customer invoicing, and cash disbursements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts and working capital analyses.
  • Provide financial analysis and decision support for capital expenditures, pricing, capacity expansion, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to margins, overhead, labor, and operating efficiency.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a lean accounting team (3 full‑time, 1 part‑time), including cross‑training to enhance resiliency and coverage.
  • Be a visible presence in the facility and on the shop floor, building strong working relationships across departments.
  • Own and manage relationships with the company’s bank, external auditors (KLR), insurance brokers/carriers, and key external advisors.
  • Support compliance with insurance, loan covenants, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Support evaluation and integration of potential acquisitions in New England, including financial due diligence, quality of earnings support, and integration of accounting systems and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience as Controller, Finance Director, or equivalent in a manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience in job‑based or custom manufacturing with high transaction volume (POs, invoices, inventory movements).
  • Demonstrated experience leading or heavily supporting an ERP implementation or major system transition, including data migration and module reconciliation (manufacturing ERP is a plus).
  • Proficiency with Excel and comfort working with ERP and reporting tools.
  • Experience with Keyed In Manufacturing ERP or similar manufacturing ERP systems is a plus.
  • Experience in companies between approximately $15M–$40M in revenue.
  • Prior involvement in M&A, integrations, or multi‑entity financial reporting is a plus.
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certifications is a plus.
