AboutThe Role
Boston University Financial Assistance seeks a Financial Aid Counselor. This early‑career professional position is responsible for reviewing financial aid applications for undergraduate students. The role involves awarding federal, state, and institutional funds, supporting office operations and systems, and providing customer service via phone and email. The Financial Aid Counselor works closely with colleagues across Financial Assistance, Student Employment, Admissions, Registrar, and Combined Enrollment Services.
Reports to the Senior Assistant Director of Financial Assistance.
- Provide guidance and support to front‑line customer service colleagues by answering questions about financial‑aid policies, regulations, and the application process.
- Analyze and resolve conflicting information on student financial aid applications to facilitate awarding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
- Support the management of federal, state, and institutional financial aid award and compliance through recurring and ad‑hoc projects.
Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). It enrolls and retains students, secures external funding, and generates tuition revenue through strategic discounting. The office provides services through timely review of financial aid applications, awarding, loan processing, and counseling to students and parents.
RequirementsA cover letter is required for consideration.
Candidate Profile- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least one year of experience in a service‑ and detail‑oriented position.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Remote work is dependent on performance; position designated as remote‑local. Successful candidate must reside within a 3‑hour commuting distance of the University.
