Budget Analyst – MGH Institute of Health Professions

Job Summary

As a Budget Analyst, you will collaborate with leaders to drive strategic and operational success. In this hybrid role, you will enhance financial models, support multi‑year forecasting, and play a key part in shaping the Institute’s future. Your analytical insights and innovative spirit will help the Institute achieve its mission.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of analytical experience in a higher‑education environment (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience with generally accepted accounting principles and financial analysis.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service orientation; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Workday, Strata, Adaptive Insights, and database programs such as Datatel is desirable.
  • Physical demands: regularly sit, stand, be mobile, use hands; requires close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
  • Budget Development – 40%:
    • Support the annual operating budget process in Strata.
    • Provide technical and analytical support throughout the budget cycle to cost center managers.
    • Review departmental budget submissions to ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
    • Assist in consolidating data, developing analyses, and preparing materials for Budget Committee discussions.
    • Facilitate capital budget development by maintaining the capital budget in Strata.
    • Collaborate on multi‑year financial plans in Strata, including tuition, fee revenue, and operating expenses.
    • Ensure the Adaptive Insights employee model is accurate and up‑to‑date.
  • Financial Modeling & Analysis – 30%:
    • Meet with cost center managers to review budget assumptions and provide financial guidance.
    • Provide monthly revenue and expense analysis for financial projections.
    • Assist with scorecard and variance analysis in Strata Management Reporting module.
    • Train new managers on required commentary in Strata.
    • Develop ad‑hoc financial models and manage projects to support financial planning.
  • System Support – 20%:
    • Train users on Strata modules and reports.
    • Maintain the Strata budget model and ensure data accuracy.
    • Troubleshoot system issues in collaboration with the Strata team.
    • Support budget system upgrades, testing, and process improvements.
    • Keep Adaptive Insights updated for accurate forecasting data.
  • Collaboration & Communication – 10%:
    • Serve as a budget liaison for departments and program leaders.
    • Promote financial literacy across the IHP community.
    • Participate in cross‑functional planning or process improvement teams.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Hybrid work model.

Location:

1 First Avenue, Boston, MA. 40 weekly hours. Regular employee type. Day shift.

Pay range: $62,400 – $90,750 per year (annual).
