Responsibilities- Advises clients on tax implications of business objectives and selects alternative actions to reduce tax burden.
- Acts as primary client contact for complex tax issues and communicates potential risks and policy changes.
- Provides written tax advice and supports marketing, networking, and business development within the tax specialization area.
- Ensures client compliance with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Conducts top‑level reviews of tax returns (T/R) and resolves all tax issues, involving specialists when appropriate.
- Communicates identified issues to client, Assurance, and other stakeholders.
- Plans and reviews tax processes, budgeting, staffing, and monitoring of engagement process versus budget.
- Manages timeliness of billing, collection of accounts receivable, and client expectations.
- Identifies required research, frames issues concisely, and reports analysis clearly.
- Applies firm standards to preparation of WTA and tax returns and involves firm specialists as needed.
- Applies firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740 and FIN 48.
- Explains income tax provision components and uncertain tax positions to clients and Assurance counterparts.
- Utilizes and manages STS as needed and plans tax accrual reviews with budget, scope, and delivery dates.
- Recommends and implements efficient methods to maximize client tax benefits.
- Considers applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client.
- Develops and implements work plans for ongoing client projects and serves as a technical resource.
- Provides effective assistance with exam support and frames projects for delegation to seniors and associates.
- Develops an in‑depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more taxation areas.
- May organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization.
- Introduces new or improved ideas to improve client and firm positions.
- Reviews studies of tax implications and offers alternative courses of action.
- Leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on process improvement.
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains associates and seniors on current software tools and acts as a career advisor.
- Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates and provides performance feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required). Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience (required).
- Prior supervisory experience (required).
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty (preferred).
- CPA certification, attorney admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) (required).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred) and experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software (preferred).
- Superior verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills; capacity to work well in a team; and executive presence (required).

Colorado Range: $104,500 - $115,500
Illinois Range: $105,000 - $130,000
Maryland Range: $113,000 - $120,000
Massachusetts Range: $120,000 - $127,000
Minnesota Range: $90,000 - $120,000
New Jersey Range: $115,000 - $140,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $125,000 - $160,000
Washington Range: $107,400 - $126,900
Washington DC Range: $120,000 - $140,000
