As an Operations Engineer, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross‑functional projects, developing and delivering the next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. You are a customer‑obsessed leader that will play an integral part in planning and implementation of the facility network infrastructure including new builds, retrofits, expansions and program initiatives.
This role requires 75 % regional travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office and be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations.
Key responsibilities- Work independently with internal and external teams to manage the lifecycle of challenging projects and act as owner in delivering on project objectives and targets.
- Participate in firm engineering reviews, influencing proposed solutions on system and facility architecture.
- Partner with stakeholders and external vendors to set priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules.
- Lead execution of systems and automated equipment designs per established standards, performing installation, throughput and safety qualifications.
- Lead effective meetings, document discussion, decisions and future steps.
- Communicate project status, risk analysis and mitigation plans to leadership and management.
- Articulate system and equipment designs, including layouts, technical specifications and functional capabilities.
- Manage change orders, purchase orders, and invoice validation/approvals.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
- Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to increase engineering efficiencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing or other engineering discipline.
- 4+ years of experience as an industrial, operations, manufacturing or project engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with material handling equipment (MHE) and automated material handling systems.
- Knowledge of packaging technologies, storage solutions, AutoCAD, VBA and SQL at an intermediate level.
- Master’s degree in engineering, management or Technology.
- Experience managing third‑party vendors.
- Experience with Six Sigma or lean manufacturing.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, MS Project).
