M&J is actively seeking a Resident Engineer to work as part of our distinguished team on complex construction projects based in the Massachusetts area for clients including the Massachusetts Port Authority (Mass Port) and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Responsibilities- Ensure all project work is performed on schedule, on budget, according to plans and quality standards provided by the contract specifications.
- Ensure all work operations adhere to approved work safety plans and environmental permits.
- Work closely with client authorities, design consultants, stakeholders, and contractors to mitigate operational impacts and ensure all project needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
- Monitor and maintain project CPM schedules and milestones, identify and mitigate risks.
- Evaluate contractor pay requisitions, ensure accuracy of billing, and process payment approvals in a timely manner.
- Prepare change orders, evaluate extra work requests, and perform engineering cost analysis to support negotiations.
- Analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions.
- Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to mitigate scheduling conflicts and delays.
- Lead project meetings and coordinate other incidental meetings.
- Ensure the client is informed and kept current on project progress and all project issues.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability: Considerable knowledge of civil construction work practices and principles used on complex facility, highway, and bridge construction projects; skill and ability to analyze and evaluate constructability issues and provide effective solutions; technical skills and understanding of CPM schedules, preparation of engineering and administrative reports; strong leadership skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
Minimum Qualifications – General Experience- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field is preferred.
- Ten (10) years of civil construction work experience in new commercial building construction or equivalent setting.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Ability to lead and manage CE&I project staff and ensure all aspects of project work are accounted for.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Experience working on Mass Port or MBTA projects.
- Experience utilizing PMWeb Project Management Information System software.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Compass, and AASHTOWare software.
- Experience with construction MEP and fire protection systems.
- ACI Certification.
- NETTCP Concrete, NETTCP HMA Paving, NETTCP Soils and Aggregate certifications.
- ATSSA Traffic Control Technician certification.
- OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health certification.
- Candidate must possess and retain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and auto insurance.
- Candidate must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to perform work year‑round in varied weather conditions, including off‑hours and weekends when necessary. Candidate should maintain adequate physical ability to properly continue job performance.
