The expected compensation range for this position is $98,000 – $130,000 annually.
The OpportunityBird Brain is searching for an innovative Electrical Engineer to drive the design of the electronic systems that power our hands‑on STEM educational products. You'll develop kid‑ and classroom‑ready next‑generation STEM learning tools across all our brands – Bird Brain Technologies, Strawbees, and Tinkering Labs. This role focuses on circuits, embedded systems, sensors, and AI‑driven autonomous robotics that empower students and educators worldwide.
You will collaborate across the organization to bring high‑quality, safe, and accessible learning tools to market that make students and teachers say “WOW!”
- Circuit and PCB Design
- Design electronic circuits and printed circuit boards for microcontroller‑based STEM learning tools and educational devices
- Select components that balance performance, cost, availability, and durability for classroom and student use
- Design electronics with a user‑centered mindset, ensuring products are safe, intuitive, and appropriate for classroom environments
- Consider common classroom use cases and potential misuse scenarios when developing robust electrical systems
- Advocate for reliable and accessible product experiences by incorporating user‑centered and classroom‑aware design principles
- Prototyping and Testing
- Build, assemble, and test prototype circuits and electronic assemblies to evaluate functionality and reliability
- Conduct electrical testing, including power analysis, EMC/EMI considerations, ESD robustness, and general reliability testing
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues related to noise, power, thermal behavior, and component interactions
- Iterate designs based on test results, user feedback, manufacturability requirements, and cost targets
- System Integration and Collaboration
- Collaborate with mechanical and industrial designers to ensure electronics integrate effectively into physical product designs
- Define hardware‑firmware interfaces and support firmware bring‑up, integration, testing, and debugging to ensure reliable system performance
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on system architecture and product design decisions
- Documentation and Compliance
- Prepare technical documentation including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), test procedures, and production specifications
- Support compliance and certification efforts for applicable regulatory and safety standards such as FCC, CE, and UL
