VHB’s structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public.
VHB is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Structures group on a temporary/flexible basis. The role supports planning, analysis, and design of a diverse portfolio of structural projects across New England. This position can be performed remotely by an engineer who resides within the MA/RI/NH region and may travel to client sites when needed.
Responsibilities- Support, develop, organize, and implement structural planning, analysis, and design, including preparing preliminary and final design documents.
- Manage tasks and timelines for project deliverables.
- Review plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to ensure scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements are met.
- Extensive knowledge of structural engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated excellence in technical writing.
- Team‑oriented with strong capability to work independently.
- Robust technical and critical‑thinking skills.
- Detail‑oriented and quality‑focused.
- Strong project management skills.
- Motivation to lead and mentor others.
- Knowledge of structural engineering software; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station v8, Revit, Open Roads, Open Bridge, and/or Connect is a strong plus.
- 8–11 years of professional experience in structural bridge and building design, including construction phasing and complex projects.
- BS in Civil Engineering;
Master’s Degree preferred. - PE licensure required.
Hourly rate: $55.00–$81.00 for Boston/Watertown, MA and $50.00–$76.00 for Worcester, MA. Final compensation is based on qualifications, education, and experience.
