Senior or Principal Embedded Control Engineer – High-Power Electronics

Compensation: To $175K+

Location: North of Boston

A mid-sized, innovation-focused technology manufacturer is seeking an experienced engineer to develop embedded control firmware for multi-kilowatt power-conversion systems used in advanced industrial applications. This role sits within a forward-looking engineering group and involves close collaboration with scientists and domain specialists exploring next‑generation control architectures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead development of DSP-based digital control features for complex power‑electronics platforms within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Architect and implement communication interfaces among system-level modules.
  • Perform analytical modeling and implement advanced control algorithms for power converters and RF/microwave‑driven subsystems.
  • Define, document, and execute design‑verification test plans; summarize results and recommend tradeoffs to optimize control‑firmware performance.
  • Create and maintain firmware documentation, configuration artifacts, and release records.
  • Work closely with hardware and power‑electronics engineers to integrate controls with system components.
  • Participate in cross‑functional efforts to advance new products that rely heavily on precision power delivery.
Required Experience
  • BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record developing firmware from concept through release using DSPs and C/C++ and/or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Hands‑on experience with digital control for one or more of the following: resonant inverters, buck/boost converters, PFC topologies, or similar architectures.
  • Strong understanding of common power‑electronics topologies and their associated closed‑loop digital control methods.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to break down complex system behaviors.
  • Proficiency with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, power meters, and related diagnostics.
Preferred Background
  • Exposure to hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) or model‑based test environments.
  • Experience with version‑control workflows.
  • Familiarity with GUI tools that support hardware bring‑up or test automation.
  • Industry experience with complex, high‑value industrial or scientific equipment (semiconductor tools, RF systems, or comparable platforms).

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
