Waterfront Structures Engineer – VHB
This position involves planning, permitting, and designing waterfront and coastal infrastructure across our New England footprint, including marinas, piers, bulkheads, seawalls, revetments, marine terminal structures, and living shoreline stabilization. Candidates will be licensed professional engineers and part of a high‑performing, multidisciplinary team addressing coastal management challenges.
Responsibilities- Support ongoing Waterfront/Coastal practice projects and business development efforts.
- Assist in development of qualifications and proposals for waterfront infrastructure and coastal resilience‑related RFPs.
- Perform engineering analysis, preliminary and detailed design of waterfront/coastal structures.
- Manage projects (scope, budget, schedule); coordinate with sub‑consultants and team members; ensure quality control throughout project execution, including:
- Design and permitting of waterfront developments such as piers, marinas, boardwalks.
- Analysis and design of structures for flood and erosion control: seawalls, bulkheads, revetments, breakwaters, wave fences, fendering, fishing piers, marina docking structures, boat launch ramps.
- Contributing to living shoreline erosion solution designs.
- Conducting/reviewing technical analyses and calculations.
- Completing mooring and berthing analyses and design.
- Dredging design and permitting.
- Preparation of project specifications, bid and contract documents.
- Construction contract administration.
- Site inspections and report preparation.
- B.S. in Civil, Structural, Waterfront, or Coastal Engineering. M.S. preferred.
- 8-11 years of experience in Waterfront Engineering, including geotechnical and structural analysis.
- Professional Engineer licensed (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Knowledge of Rhode Island regulatory processes preferred.
- Experience with multiple federal, state, and local coastal agencies (USACE, FEMA, USGS, NOAA) preferred.
- Knowledge of FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program and experience in coastal flood hazard analysis and mapping.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated technical, analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
Salary: $115,000–$150,000 (Boston/Watertown, MA). Final compensation will depend on qualifications, education, and experience.
