Early Career Geotechnical Engineer

WSP in the U.S. is seeking an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team. This position can be located in Boston, MA, North Providence, RI, Glastonbury, CT, Worcester, MA, Shelton, CT, or any other WSP office throughout New England.

Overview

As a new engineer, you will be involved in projects with our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team and help the organization meet client objectives and solve challenges.

Your Impact
  • Perform field observation and special inspection of subsurface investigations in soils and rock.
  • Assist in geotechnical engineering design and analyses for bridges, buildings, tunnels, underground structures, and retaining walls under minimal supervision of senior engineers.
  • Assist in preparation or drafting of geotechnical memoranda, data reports and design reports.
  • Perform field observation and special inspection of geotechnical construction.
  • Assist task leaders in preparation of reports and contract documents.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and project partners.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering, or a closely-related field.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven knowledge of geotechnical engineering and working knowledge of related disciplines (Structures, Civil, and/or Environmental).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline‑specific design software (e.g., Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Geo Slope, Plaxis, Settle, LPILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, SEEP/W, Rock Sciences Software, etc.), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and other tools.
  • Flexibility to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and ability to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in work environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and perform field work.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Uphold workplace safety and abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training certification.
  • Prior design and/or construction experience of highway, bridge, building, and underground projects.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation

Expected Salary Range: $56,300 - $92,900 (based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity and specific geographic location). WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and compensation under circumstances not related to protected status.
