The Field Engineer (FE) works directly for the Superintendent and is expected to exercise judgment and discretion in making recommendations, implementing policies and procedures and handling a wide variety of matters in the field. The primary purpose is to proactively aid the Superintendent in front-line field management. The FE is responsible for layout on a project, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, lift drawings, safety, and quality control responsibilities.
Although the majority of time is in the field, some duties may require work in the field office. This is a safety sensitive position.
- A 4-year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture or Construction Management.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Computer software:
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel-based templates), Project Sight, Primavera and Auto Desk Suite.
- Past internships in the construction industry are preferred, but not required.
- Project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.
- Check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy of construction, including embedded items, before placement of concrete.
- Produce production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and report for weekly and monthly schedule and cost control.
- Assist with quality control, site safety initiatives and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent. May include directing a small workforce to gain supervisory experience.
- Coordinate material deliveries by checking material requirements in advance and comparing with delivery status. Inspect materials for quantity, quality and condition, and report missing/damaged items.
- Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Oversight of trade partners and direction of work forces to gain supervisory experience.
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings and weekly safety audits.
- Collaborate with the VDC team on VDC scope of work, execution plan and deliverables related to field operations. Review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software.
Moderate work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, reading, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, typing. Frequency varies by workflow.
- Walking within office and job site areas; moving to access file cabinets and equipment.
- Constant use of computer and office machinery; frequent communication with staff and external stakeholders.
- Reading blueprints and taking/verifying field measurements.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding; balance and mobility requirements.
- Exposure to high/low temperatures, noisy environments, and outdoor elements.
