What is the High School Director of Student Life?

The Director of Student Life will bear responsibility for developing a strong, positive, achievement-focused school culture that invests all students in their academic and personal achievement. This Director will be responsible for community identity formation and celebration through community meeting and for all non‑academic programming, including clubs, sports, arts enrichments, and community service. The Director of Student Life will also manage advisory, including providing advisory vision‑setting, professional development, instructional materials, individual advisor support, advisory assignments and managing advisory field trips.

The Director of Student Life will also support all discipline issues and will directly manage the Deans of Students and Athletic Director. The position offers a compensation range of $98,000–$166,400, with working hours from 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Responsibilities School Culture and Community
  • Develop and sustain a strong, positive, achievement-focused, celebratory school culture.
  • Prepare for daily community meetings, including managing the student planning committee and ensuring that each meeting is robust, meaningful, and well‑planned.
  • Align community meetings to advisory content and school calendar.
  • Manage our half‑day programming.
School Discipline
  • Directly manage the school culture team, including the Deans of Students.
  • Ensure consistent and effective implementation of school culture and discipline policies and systems (including Smart Pass, detention, in‑school suspension, out‑of‑school suspension, etc.).
  • Ensure accuracy of data collection and reporting to the state.
  • Use data to inform interventions and support continuous improvement for students and staff.
  • Develop, implement, and track interventions for students with behavioral challenges, ensuring systems are monitored and progress is supported.
Advisory
  • Set vision for advisory and ensure all advisories are aligned to it.
  • Develop all advisors and provide adequate support such that all advisories are aligned in reaching the school’s advisory vision. This includes professional development for all advisors and individual coaching of advisors.
  • Provide instructional materials for advisory lessons and exercises.
  • Arrange advisory retreats and support planning for other advisory activities.
Extra‑curricular Activities
  • Manage the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate all club offerings.
  • Track all club, sports, and community service hours and consistently communicate to students their status regarding these requirements.
  • Meet with students regarding their sports, club, and community service hours and support them in reaching these requirements. Communicate with parents about their students’ progress towards meeting these requirements.
  • Meet with all families of incoming seniors who have not fulfilled their sports/clubs/community service hours to date to develop graduation plans to meet all sports, club, and community services requirements.
  • Attend major school events, including dances, prom, graduation, etc.
