We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Sport Leadership and Administration to begin September 1, 2026. Of particular interest are candidates with scholarly expertise in equity in sport and whose teaching, research, and service will advance our college mission and the commitments outlined in our university strategic plan (page 11).

  • The role of sport in the pursuit of social change.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Scholarship that incorporates critical theoretical lenses to advance equity and social justice in sport through their scholarship, teaching, and service.
  • Experience with culturally sustaining and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Involvement in collaborative, interdisciplinary and community‑engaged scholarship.
  • A record or promise of research productivity.
  • The position also offers opportunities for collaboration with UMass Boston’s Collaborative of Asian American, Native American, Latino, and African American Institutes (CANALA - UMass Boston) with socio‑culturally diverse populations and interest in collaborative interdisciplinary research.

    Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in the Sport Leadership and Administration Program.
  • Conducting research that is relevant to the field of sport leadership and administration.
  • Contributing service to university, college, departmental, and program committees, professional associations, and to local, national, and/or international communities.
  • Required Qualifications

    Ph.D. or Ed.D. from a Sport Management, Educational Leadership, Sport Studies, Sport Psychology, Sport Sociology, or related field.

The Sport Leadership and Administration program is housed in CEHD’s Counseling, School Psychology and Sport Department, which also includes two APA Accredited Programs in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology, MPCAC‑Accredited Masters Programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling, NASP‑Accredited Masters and Ed.S. Programs in School Psychology, a graduate certificate program in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a B.A. in Sport Leadership and Administration.

    The mission of the Sport Leadership and Administration program is to cultivate equity‑minded, character‑driven, and transformational leaders who will positively improve society through sport. The program prepares students for careers within the sport industry with the goal of transforming and improving organizations and communities.
