Job DescriptionThe Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs for the Division of Behavioral, Social Sciences & Global Learning is part of BHCC's academic leadership team and works under the supervision of and in consultation with the Dean in the operation of the academic division. The Assistant Dean is also part of a team of academic and student affairs administrators whose shared focus is on developing, implementing, and supporting innovative academic and co‑curricular initiatives that promote student access, equity, and achievement.
With these goals in mind, the Assistant Dean provides administrative support and leadership for a variety of departments and work areas within the division, including:
Behavioral Sciences, History and Social Sciences, Human Services, Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, International Center serving over 700 International Students, and the Commonwealth Honors Program.
- Provide leadership and oversight for divisional activities and grant initiatives, including student enrollment, retention, and student success.
- Support curricular and co‑curricular program development, implementation, and assessment.
- Compile, evaluate, and report on relevant data that support assessment and program improvement.
- Assist in the administration of the division, including office management; budgets, data, and related reports; and requests for information related to collective bargaining and other Human Resource matters.
- Serve as a division liaison to BHCC work areas, including Academic Records, Student Central, the Dean of Students Office, and Advising and Life Map.
- Support the development and revision of the course master schedule, including the preparation and evaluation of supporting data.
- Collaborate with the Dean in the development, revision, and implementation of the division's master schedule of courses.
- Collaboratively create and execute course scheduling and faculty assignments for all full‑time and part‑time faculty in accordance with the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) collective bargaining agreement.
- Manage scheduling for a faculty team of approximately 20 full‑time faculty and more than 60 part‑time faculty across multiple departments and programs.
- Prepare, analyse, and interpret enrollment, staffing, and workload data to support scheduling decisions.
- Work directly with the Registrar's Office to create, revise, and finalize course schedules for the full academic year.
- Collaborate with deans and administrative support staff to design and implement professional development and training.
- Support the program review process: identify programs approaching program review, prepare of supporting data, and coordinate the external evaluation process.
- Participate in hiring processes, orientation, and onboarding.
- Ensure that relevant college policies and procedures are followed. Respond to faculty concerns.
- Review course materials and syllabi.
- Conduct classroom observations.
