About the Art Complex Museum

The Art Complex Museum, located in the historic town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, houses the art collection of the Carl

A. Weyerhaeuser family and includes more than 8,000 objects, among them American and European prints, rare books, American paintings, Shaker furniture, Asian art, and other works. The museum serves as a regional center for visual arts, presenting exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events for diverse audiences.

Position Overview

The Education & Programming Coordinator plays a central role in fulfilling ACM’s mission by designing and delivering educational and public programs that bring art to life for visitors of all ages. This position blends creativity, collaboration, and strategic thinking to develop experiences that celebrate the museum’s collection, exhibitions, and cultural heritage.

The Education and Programming Coordinator oversees a diverse portfolio of programs, including school field trips, adult lecture series, art workshops, summer art programs, gallery talks, and artist demonstrations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about arts education, community engagement, and fostering opportunities for lifelong learning through the arts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive slate of educational and public programs that align with ACM’s mission, exhibitions, and community interests.
  • Collaborate with artists, educators, and partner organizations to design creative learning experiences rooted in the museum’s permanent collection and rotating exhibitions.
  • Organize programs such as hands‑on workshops, artist talks, interactive family days, and events that connect art‑making with cultural appreciation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison among local schools, teachers, and community groups, ensuring that programs align with the Massachusetts K‑12 curriculum frameworks.
  • Oversee teaching artists, instructors, and volunteers, while nurturing an inclusive and collaborative environment.
  • Manage program budgets, track participation, evaluate program outcomes, and prepare reports for the Executive Director.
  • Contribute to outreach efforts by collaborating with the communications team to market programs and share stories of impact.
  • Stay informed about trends in museum education and visitor engagement, introducing innovative ideas to keep the museum’s programming relevant and inspiring.
  • Serve on the Weekend Team, working one weekend each month. Additional nights and weekends may be required from time to time.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Education, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in museum education, public programming, or community arts setting.

    Strong understanding of art interpretation and ability to make visual art accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Enthusiasm and experience in public speaking, collaboration, and relationships building with the community.
  • Positive, detail‑oriented, and adaptable with a passion for the arts and education.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts school systems and experience working with school district administrators and educators, developing standards‑based programming.
  • Comfortable using technology for program development, communication, and audience outreach.
Compensation

Compensation range is $50,000 - $65,000 and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in a 401(k) retirement savings plan, and generous paid time off.
