MED science Teacher & Program Coordinator

Job Description

HMS MED science has an opening for an experienced team teacher for its high school biology‑based enrichment program. In addition to teaching, this position will coordinate program logistics for various partners and support the training of volunteers who join our teaching team. The role directly supports the program’s goals and may expand to teach additional areas such as laboratory science, forensic science, and biomedical engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Teacher:
    Deliver interactive lectures, simulation cases, and debriefs using innovative pedagogy techniques aligned with program goals of critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, communication, health literacy, and STEM interest. Collaborate with the MED science team to deliver school‑year and summer programming; instruct students in medical skills, terminology, and scientific literacy (training provided).
  • Program Coordination:
    Coordinate programming for at least 20 partnering high school classroom teachers for fall and spring semester courses—discuss logistics, individualize the program curriculum calendar, provide program materials, monitor completion of required paperwork & surveys. Within the MED science teaching team, establish roles for each session, manage setup and breakdown of session materials, provide support and training to partnering teachers, interns, and volunteers, and supervise student survey administration ensuring 100% completion.
  • Teacher Training:
    Train newly hired teachers and volunteers on the curriculum; run training sessions before class and observe classes to provide feedback.
  • Curriculum Development:
    Assist in refining written materials for pedagogy evaluation and other documents needed for program expansion. Work with leadership and the teaching team to develop and support curricular innovation and cultural competency in the classroom.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to teach 3–4 in‑person sessions each day (75 minutes/session).
  • Must assist in set‑up of simulation equipment and clinical skills training, which may include lifting and carrying moderate‑weight objects.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • College‑level understanding of biology and anatomy/physiology.
  • Prior high school‑level teaching experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands.
  • Open‑minded and adaptable; comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Embraces opportunities to learn and grow and contribute to the mission‑driven organization.
  • Experience in a patient‑facing healthcare profession is a plus.
  • Experience or willingness to train on lab techniques: ELISA, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
  • Ability to teach in Spanish preferred.

    35 hours per week.
