Teacher - Foreign Language [Spanish], Gr. 9-12 (Long-Term Substitute) (SY25-26)
Long‑term substitute position for the 2025‑26 school year, expected to start 01/07/2026 and end 04/08/2026. All substitutes are hired as per diem subs, even for long‑term assignments. For more information on becoming a BPS substitute, visit BPS Sub Central.
Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional, highly qualified Foreign Language Teacher to join our community of educators committed to high expectations, equity, and student achievement.
Reports to:
Principal/Head of Schools.
- Teach Spanish to students in grades 9–12.
- Accountability for Student Achievement:
Set ambitious learning goals, create cognitively demanding tasks, assess student understanding regularly, make instructional adjustments, and maintain passion and optimism for teaching. - Communicating Content Knowledge:
Demonstrate mastery and enthusiasm for Spanish, connect content to real‑world contexts, and convey material creatively and engagingly in alignment with standards. - Equitable & Effective Instruction:
Scaffold and differentiate instruction to support all learners, employ practices that challenge, motivate, and engage students, and build a productive classroom environment in which every student participates and is valued. - Cultural Proficiency:
Actively create and maintain an environment that respects diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges. - Parent/Family Engagement:
Engage families and build collaborative, respectful relationships to support student learning. - Professional Reflection &
Collaboration:
Reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, demonstrate self‑awareness and commitment to continuous learning, and participate in a collaborative professional learning community.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree.
- Possess the appropriate valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Spanish for the required grade level.
- Meet all state and federal licensing guidelines and be deemed Highly Qualified per NCLB.
- Show capability to meet BPS’s Standards of Effective Teaching.
- Have current authorization to work in the United States, including by the first day of employment.
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- Fluency in one of BPS’s official languages:
Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali. - Certification in subject area and in one or both of the following:
Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language (appropriate grade levels).
School start and end times vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools offer a longer day through the “Schedule A” Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
