We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sport Leadership and Administration to begin September 1, 2026. Of particular interest are candidates with scholarly expertise in equity in sport and whose teaching, research, and service will advance our college mission and the commitments outlined in our university strategic plan (page 11).

Research agenda focus areas:

  • Opportunities and barriers to equity in sport leadership and administration
  • The role of sport in the pursuit of social change

Preferred qualifications include one or more of the following:

  • Scholarship that incorporates critical theoretical lenses to advance equity and social justice in sport through scholarship, teaching, and service
  • Experience with culturally sustaining and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning
  • Involvement in collaborative, interdisciplinary and community‑engaged scholarship
  • A record or promise of research productivity

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in the Sport Leadership and Administration Program
  • Conducting research that is relevant to the field of sport leadership and administration
  • Contributing service to university, college, departmental, program committees, professional associations, and local, national, and/or international communities

The College of Education and Human Development is ranked the top public school of education in the state of Massachusetts (U.S. News and World Report, 2025) and is guided by our core values of social justice, community engagement and academic excellence. The Sport Leadership and Administration program is housed in CEHD’s Counseling, School Psychology and Sport Department, which also includes two APA Accredited Programs in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology, MPCAC‑Accredited Masters Programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling, NASP‑Accredited Masters and Ed.S. Programs in School Psychology, a graduate certificate program in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a B.A. in Sport Leadership and Administration.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. from a field such as Sport Management, Educational Leadership, Sport Studies, Sport Psychology, Sport Sociology, or related field

Salary Range:
Approximate $80,000 – $85,850. Specific pay will be determined by the University when an offer is extended, with possibility for salaries above the published range for exceptional candidates.
