Join the Boston Public Schools community as a Long-Term Substitute in a Dual Language setting. This position starts on 02/02/2026 and ends on 06/26/2026. All substitute teachers are hired at the per diem rate.
This teaching role requires bilingual, bi-literate Spanish and English proficiency. An English as a Second Language license at the appropriate level is highly preferred.
Reports to:
Principal / Head of Schools
- Teach English Language Arts in a Dual Language setting.
- Implement district learning goals and objectives in alignment with state frameworks and identify access points for student portfolio development.
- Provide small‑group instruction to students with moderate to severe cognitive delays, ensuring understanding and progress.
- Write and implement goals and objectives consistent with student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and deliver timely, regular progress reports.
- Provide needed accommodations for student learning and testing when required; develop and implement curriculum and collect and analyze student work in preparation for the MCAS Alternative Assessment.
- Collaborate as a team member within the school building to support staff members in responding to student needs for modification.
- Assist students in transitioning to adult living services as appropriate.

Create and maintain an environment that respects students’ diverse backgrounds and identities. - Parent / Family Engagement:
Engage with families and build collaborative, respectful relationships in service of student learning. - Professional Reflection &
Collaboration:
Reflect on practice, seek and respond to feedback, and participate in a collaborative adult learning community.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
- Meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by Boston Public Schools.
- Current authorization to work in the United States by first day of employment.
- Experience teaching in urban schools.
- Dual certification in ESL.
- Degree in Education.
- Fluency in one of BPS’s official languages:
Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali. - Core content teacher certification in subject area PLUS one of:
Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (appropriate grade level).

The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. Some schools have a longer school day through the “Schedule A” Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
